Scandinavian Joint Expedition to Sudanese Nubia
The Scandinavian Joint Expedition was the result of joint efforts of the four Scandinavian countries, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, within the framework of the international Unesco Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia.
The Expedition worked in the northernmost part of the Sudan during four winters 1961-64 and made a complete archaeological investigation of the east bank of the Nile from Faras on the Egyptian border up to Gamai in the region of the Second Cataract – a distance of about 60 kilometres.
The results have been published in nine volumes, which in addition to general historical introductions, contain a complete documentation of the archaeological data and their interpretation.
